Last 2018 Lenten Dinner A Success

Lenten Dinners - Knights of ColumbusThe Monsignor James S. Conlan Council #5329 held its last in a series of 2018 Lenten Dinners on Friday, March 23, 2018 at 7p EST at the Church of the Infant Saviour in Pine Bush, NY. The event gave patrons the choice of “to go” or “eat in” meal servings. The menu for the night was two slices of homemade Sicilian style pizza for $5 per serving.

Those patrons who choose to stay and eat gathered in a community style dining area in the Church of the Infant Saviour Parish Hall. There was a real sense of Parish and Faith Community to the meal. Refreshments were served at no additional cost and patrons even got to choose custom toppings for their pizza. Patrons’ reviews were a solid “amazing” and all enjoyed their meals.

The pizzas were made in the newly donated oven that the Knights purchased and installed last month in the Church Hall kitchen. The oven was fitted into a custom made cabinet also built by the Knights through donated materials and everything worked perfectly for the event.

We had a strong showing of Brother Knights to help out in the kitchen and serve patrons. We had a large turn out of both “to go” and “eat in” orders. The line moved quickly despite the large turn out and all were well fed at a reasonable price.

The movie “The Face of Mercy” was shown to all patrons who “ate in” at no additional charge. The movie is a powerful documentary narrated by Jim Caviezel. The documentary begins with  St. Faustina’s visions that inspired the devotion of the Divine Mercy. The documentary spans decades to our modern day where the devotion of the Divine Mercy continues to impact the daily lives of everyday people– inspiring them to be more faithful, as well as, more attentive to the needs of our Lord Jesus Christ and all his people.

The money raised throughout the series of 2018 Lenten Dinners will be used by the Knights towards works of faith, mercy, and charity that are performed throughout the year by our Council. Donations go directly towards helping our Parish and our Parish community members with as little overhead as possible. Since all Knights perform these good works as volunteers only materials and purchased items get deducted from the proceeds. Therein our Council ensures as much money as possible go directly to the causes and people we support throughout the year.

The Monsignor James S. Conlan Council #5329 would like to thank all the Brother Knights who volunteered this year for this 2018 Lenten Dinner series, as well as, all the patrons who turned out to purchase meals throughout the event. A special thank you to Father Niranjan Rodrigo for allowing the Knights to use the Church kitchen and Parish Hall throughout the event. We are grateful for all who contributed to our Council and look forward to doing the it again next year in 2019.
