The Knights of Columbus Monsignor James S. Conlan Council #5329 was assisted by the Pine Bush Fire Department in changing the sash on the Cross that stands in front of the Church of the Infant Saviour on the morning of Saturday, March 31, 2018. The new white sash will remain on the Cross throughout the 2018 Catholic Liturgical Easter Season. The Knights originally helped erect the cross for both the 2018 Liturgical Lenten and Easter Seasons on February 12, 2018.
For Lent a purple sash is used throughout the season. Purple is traditionally the color of royalty and associated with kings. During Jesus Christ’s Passion he was mocked by the Roman authorities and dressed in a purple robe while wearing a crown of thorns.
For the Easter Season the sash is changed to white to represent the light brought into the world by Jesus Christ’s Resurrection on Easter Day and God’s love for his people shown through the sacrifice of his only son Jesus Christ during the Passion and Crucifixion. After Jesus Christ’s Resurrection he appeared to his disciples multiple times and he was described many of those times as wearing robes so bright white that is was hard to look directly at him.
The 2018 Liturgical Easter Season begins with the Easter Vigil Mass, which is observed at all the evening masses held at all Catholic Churches on Saturday, March 31, 2018 and continues until Pentecost Sunday masses to be held on Sunday, March 20, 2018.
The Church of the Infant Saviour in Pine Bush, NY will be holding its Easter masses for 2018 as follows:
Holy Saturday: March 31, 2018
8:00AM: Tenebrae
8:00PM: Easter Vigil
