March 2018 Council Activities Summary

The Knights of Columbus

Monsignor James S. Conlan Council #5329 – March 2018 Activities Summary

Lenten Dinners – We hosted Lenten Dinners throughout the 2018 Lenten season. The March dinners were held on:

3/9/18 – Pasta Fagioli
3/16/18 – Clam Chowder
3/23/18 – Pizza and Movie Night

Thank you to Father Niranjan Rodrigo for letting us use the Church kitchen and Parish Hall
throughout the event. Thank you to all Brother Knights who volunteered throughout the event.

Easter Crucifix Sash – The Knights, with the assistance of the Pine Bush Fire Dept., changed the sash on the crucifix in front of the Church of the Infant Saviour for the 2018 Easter season.

2018 Evangelization – We published several articles to support the Evangelization of the Catholic Faith on our website:

First article on 3/13/18 was about “How to Pray the Rosary”

Second was on 3/22/18 called “Confession Refresher 101” to coincide with
Reconciliation Monday during Easter Holy Week.

Third article on 4/2/18 was “The Devotion of Divine Mercy” ahead of the Feast of
Divine Mercy (4/8/18).

Online Membership – We integrated our website with the Knights Supreme Council’s to enable online membership providing any easy way for interested Catholic men to join our Council. Within three weeks we had two members join through this new registration system.

Knights of Columbus Founder’s Day – March 29, 2018 was the 136th anniversary of the founding of the Knights of Columbus by  Venerable Servant of God Father Michael J. McGivney.

Knights Attend Good Friday Liturgy – Our Council participated in Supreme’s call to all Knights and their families to attend the Good Friday Liturgy service on March 30, 2018. We also put up posters ahead of the event to publicize the importance of attending the service to parishioners in the Church Atrium. Turn out of was very good for the Liturgy from both Knights and parishioners alike.

Vocally Supporting Pro-life – We drew awareness to both stopping the NYS Bill S.7511 that would remove many important limitations on abortions in New York State, as well as, the Conscience Protection Act that would have strengthen federal law to ensure that doctors and nurses are not forced to perform abortions. While the Conscience Protection Act was disappointingly not passed by Congress, NYS Bill S.7511 still looms in Committee in NYS. It is important Catholics speak up for life and we need to let politicians know how we feel.

Monsignor James S. Conlan Council #5329 – Looking Ahead for 2018

Annual Pine Bush Central School District Scholarship – We’ll be sponsoring a $500 scholarship to be awarded to a student in the PBCSD. Applicants will write an essay based on a theme picked by the Council who will then vote on the best essay. All seniors in the district who are Catholics are eligible to participate including those in private or Catholic schools. The theme this year is:

Social media has posed many challengers for people of faith. Name three ways we can use social media and technology as a tool to deliver Jesus’s message of salvation and love to others who may not agree with our Catholic beliefs.

2018 Annual RSVP Seminarian Sponsorship Program – Our Council will be once again sponsoring a seminarian in the Archdiocese of New York this year.

Altar Server Appreciation Day – We will be sponsoring an afternoon of bowling for the Altar Servers of the Church of the Infant Saviour on May 12, 2018 in appreciation for their service to the Parish and dedication to their church mission.
