The Knights of Columbus Monsignor James S. Conlan Council #5329 would like to congratulate the Most Reverend Dominick J. Lagonegro, who has served as the Episcopal Vicar of the Northern Vicariates (Dutchess, Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster counties) of the Archdiocese of New York since 2009.
As reported in Catholic New York on July 2, 2018; New York Auxiliary Bishop Dominick J. Lagonegro’s resignation was accepted formally by Pope Francis. Bishop Lagonegro had submitted his resignation on his 75th birthday (March 6, 2018) as required by the Code of Canon Law to the Pope.
Our Council’s Knights have had the pleasure to be at many masses that Bishop Lagonegro has celebrated at the Church of Infant Saviour in Pine Bush, New York. Bishop Lagonegro was most recently assigned to Sacred Heart Church in Newburgh, New York. Being so near to the Pine Bush area Bishop Lagonegro often visited as he did with the many other parishes within the Northern Vicariates.
He had also served in nearby Poughkeepsie, New York and the larger Dutchess County New York area for many years previous to his appointment as Auxiliary Bishop. This made Bishop Lagonegro very familiar with the Northern Vicariates’ parishioners, Pastors, and Catholic Churches. His masses were celebrated with the faith and love of Jesus Christ that brought him into service of the Catholic Faith having been ordained at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on May 31, 1969.
Congratulations once again Bishop Lagonegro on your retirement. Please keep the Bishop, as well as, all our Catholic Religious in your prayers.
