Monsignor James S. Conlan Council #5329 – September 2018 Activities Summary
2018 Get Out the Vote – The Knights of Columbus is sponsoring a “Get Out the Vote” campaign to encourage eligible citizens to register to vote, as well as, to encourage those who are already registered to vote to do so come this Election Day on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. As Catholics, members of the Knights of Columbus should vote and should encourage other members of their families, parishes, and communities to vote. Yet many people, especially some senior citizens and people with disabilities, have trouble getting to the polls on voting day. To help fellow Catholics get to the polls to exercise their right to vote, the Knights of Columbus has developed the parish-based Knights of Columbus Nonpartisan National Get Out The Vote Program. You can find out more here. If you are a Brother Knight or family member of a Brother Knight (living or deceased) within the Pine Bush NY area that needs assistance getting to the polls on Election Day you can contact us here and we will arrange for a volunteer to bring you to your local polling place.

Coats for Kids – Do you know a child in need of a coat for this winter? We have a bunch of brand new coats we are willing to give to those in need. If you would like to know more feel free to contact us. We will gladly supply as many coats as you need until we run out of them. We purchased these coats last year, but never found them a good home. We know there are kids out there in need, but we need your help finding them!
Monsignor James S. Conlan Council #5329 – Looking Ahead for 2018
Religious Education Support Donation – Last year we donated money to the Church of the Infant Saviour Catechism Religious Education Program (commonly referred to as the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine or CCD program). This program educates children in school grades first through seventh grade in Catholic belief and faith. The curriculum works each child towards the Sacraments of Communion and Confirmation. Our Council will once again be making a donation this year to the CCD program. For 2018 we will be donating $500 to the program. The Knights of Columbus Supreme Council will be matching this donation bringing the total donation to $1,000. This donation is part of our Annual Charitable Giving plan and is yet another way our Council helps the local Catholic community through charitable giving, as well as, volunteer work. Currently three of our Council Brother Knights are Catechists in the CCD program and have been for several years. We also have a Brother Knight who is a Catechist in the Church’s RCIA Adult Faith formation program and again has been doing this for several years.
Jerry’s Jars – Each year our Council collects spare change throughout the year and in December collects it into a single jar. The term “Jerry’s Jars” was made popular by Muscular Dystrophy Association spokesman Jerry Lewis. The idea was to collect spare change and donate it to a worthy cause. For our Council, we donate the money to a person or family in need within our Parish area. Nominations come from many different resources and are done so anonymously. Only a few Brother Knights that are vowed to secrecy know who we donate the money to and we never actually talk with the person who gets the donation so they do not even know where the money came from. It just appears on their doorstep on a randomly decided morning. This donation is part of our Annual Charitable Giving plan and is yet another way our Council helps the local Catholic community through charitable giving, as well as, volunteer work. Over the years we have given away hundreds of dollars (and really probably over a thousand dollars– we don’t really keep count) to people in need through this program.
Super Bowl Raffle – In November 2018 we will start selling $50 raffle chances in our Annual Super Bowl Pool. A notice will be posted once the pool opens. There are four chances to win a cash prize. If you are interested in buying a raffle chance contact us and we will reach out to you when the pool opens. All money proceeds raised will be used to defer the costs of our Annual Christmas Meals program. Speaking of which….
Christmas Meals For Needy Families – Each year our Council buys everything needed for a complete Christmas dinner and gives those dinners to families in need within our Parish area. Last year we fed over 70 families and the plan is to do so again this year. This meal donation program is part of our Annual Charitable Giving plan and is yet another way our Council helps the local Catholic community through charitable giving, as well as, volunteer work.
Church of the Infant Saviour Christmas Tree Lighting – As we have the past few years, we will be donating and decorating a Christmas tree to be put on display in front of the Church of the Infant Saviour. More information will be posted on our site as we get closer to event.
