Super Bowl Raffle – We have started selling $50 raffle chances in our Annual Super Bowl Pool in November 2018. There are eight chances to win a cash prize– one for each quarter score and one for each quarter reverse score. If you are interested in buying a raffle chance contact us and we will reach out to you get you box assignment details. All money proceeds raised will be used to defer the costs of our Annual Christmas Meals program. As of this writing we’re down to only 29 boxes available– time is running out to get in this raffle for a great cause! You can find out more about the raffle here.
Jerry’s Jars – Each year our Council collects spare change throughout the year and in December collects it into a single jar. “Jerry’s Jars” is named after our past Financial Secretary Jerry Wieczorek who instituted the practice of our members saving change all year to add together at Christmas time so we can give it to a family in need. It is in the spirit of the best selling book, “Christmas Jars” by Jason Wright. Sadly, Jerry passed away only a couple of years after this was started and it is great that we can keep his ministry alive. Once again this year our Council will donate the money to a person or family in need within our Parish area. Nominations come from many different resources and are done so anonymously. Only a few Brother Knights that are vowed to secrecy know who we donate the money to and we never actually talk with the person who gets the donation so they do not even know where the money came from. It just appears on their doorstep on a randomly decided morning. This donation is part of our Annual Charitable Giving plan and is yet another way our Council helps the local Catholic community through charitable giving, as well as, volunteer work. Over the years we have given away hundreds of dollars (and really probably over a thousand dollars– we don’t really keep count) to people in need through this program. On December 13, 2018 we collected the jars, put all the money in one jar, and someone/family in need within our community of Pine Bush, NY in the coming days is going to get an early Christmas present. Thank you to all the Brother Knights who donated!
Christmas Meals For Needy Families – Each year our Council buys everything needed for a complete Christmas dinner and gives those dinners to families in need within our Parish area. Last year we fed over 70 families and we are doing so again this year. This meal donation program is part of our Annual Charitable Giving plan and is yet another way our Council helps the local Catholic community through charitable giving, as well as, volunteer work. If you know a family or individual in need of food for Christmas please contact us. Our food supplies are all bought and ready. We are getting together volunteer Brother Knights to help with delivery of the dinners next week. We are happy to say we had another successful year making sure those most in need in our Pine Bush, NY community have a proper Christmas dinner and do not go hungry on the Feast of the Lord’s Nativity. Thank you to all who bought Super Bowl raffles chances and helped to support this great cause!
Church of the Infant Saviour Christmas Tree Lighting – As we have the past few years, we donated and decorated a Christmas tree that is on display in front of the Church of the Infant Saviour. On December 8, 2018 we hosted the Annual Parish Tree Lighting event after the 5pm mass. You can find out more about the Tree Lighting Event here. Thank you to all who attended the event and all the Brother Knights who volunteered time to help out!
Space Heaters for Needy Families – Thanks to a generous gift card donation from American Shoring Inc. of Newburgh, NY our Council have six space heaters that will be given out to needy families and individuals in our Parish in December 2018. An announcement will be made at upcoming Church of the Infant Saviour masses. If you know a family or individual in need of a space heater to keep warm during these cold winter months please contact us.
Monsignor James S. Conlan Council #5329 – Looking Ahead
Fraternal Survey of Donated Time – Each year Knights around the world donate and volunteer time to their communities, parishes, and the Church. From hosting meals for the poor to donating coats to needy children in their community– the Knights of Columbus makes a real impact in the communities we serve. Each year all the Councils around the world compile their members’ donated hour information into a report. Each Council then gives that report to Supreme so they can compile our worldwide impact. In 2017 Supreme reported that “2017 was a record-setting year for Knights of Columbus charitable work with an unprecedented $185.6 million in donations and 75.6 million hours of service provided worldwide. The monetary value of K of C’s service hours is valued at $1.9 billion based on an estimate by Independent Sector, a network for nonprofit foundations that values a 2017 volunteer hour at $24.69.” In January 2019 we will be filing our report for our Council’s 2018 volunteer hours. We are sure it will be another record setting year in worldwide hours donated by Brother Knights. Thank you to all the Brother Knights in our Council who volunteer so generously in our community and thank you for being in service to one, in service to all! Want to help out? Join our ranks today online and give back to those who most need it in your community and parish.
Annual Council Dinner – Our Council will be holding its Annual Council Dinner on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 6 PM to 11 PM. The Council has reserved a couple of large tables at the Magnanini Winery Carnevale dinner celebration. Twenty-eight people have RSVP’d to the event as a “yes” as of this writing. It should be a great time and we look forward to seeing all our Brothers Knights (as well as their spouses and guests) there! The deadline to RSVP is tomorrow (12/15/18) so we can still add a few more Brothers if you are interested in attending. Please contact us ASAP though as reservation booking will be finalized in the next few days with the Winery.
