Monsignor James S. Conlan Council #5329 – January 2019 Activities Summary
Super Bowl Raffle – The Knights of Columbus Monsignor James S. Conlan Council #5329 annually holds an Annual Super Bowl Pool raffle fundraiser. This is the primary annual fundraiser for our Council. All proceeds from this fundraiser are used to offset costs incurred by our Annual Christmas Meals for the Needy Program. In December 2018 we fed thirty needy families a full Christmas dinner who otherwise would have gone without a real dinner meal. This year’s Super Bowl Pool fundraiser was another success one with all boxes sold and paid for on time. As a result, we were able to successfully cover all the costs associated with the Annual Christmas Meals for the Needy program. Without the support of our Brother Knights, their friends and family, and our Parish this would not be possible. Congratulations to all our winners! Thank you all again to all who donated money for making this another successful fundraiser and for supporting those most of in need in our community. May God bless you all for your kindness and charity!
In Memoriam – It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of former Council Member and Brother Knight Roland Rossi. Roland was a veteran and spent twenty years as a NYC firefighter, retiring as a Captain. He was the beloved father of two daughters. He was blessed with five grandchildren. He is survived by Sylvia Brown his one living sister and many nieces and nephews. A mass of Catholic Burial was offered at Infant Savior Church on Saturday, January 19, 2019. Father Dennis Nikolic officiated the mass. Roland was then laid to rest that same day at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Goshen, NY. We entrust him now to our Lord as such in the next everlasting life and pray for his peaceful rest in Jesus Christ. Please keep our Brother Knight Roland Rossi and his family in your prayers. His obituary can be found here.
John 14:2-3 (NIV)
2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
Fraternal Survey of Donated Time – Each year Knights around the world donate and volunteer time to their communities, parishes, and the Church. From hosting meals for the poor to donating coats to needy children in their community– the Knights of Columbus makes a real impact in the communities we serve. Each year all the Councils around the world compile their members’ donated hour information into a report. Each Council then gives that report to Supreme so they can compile our worldwide impact. In 2017 Supreme reported that “2017 was a record-setting year for Knights of Columbus charitable work with an unprecedented $185.6 million in donations and 75.6 million hours of service provided worldwide. The monetary value of K of C’s service hours is valued at $1.9 billion based on an estimate by Independent Sector, a network for nonprofit foundations that values a 2017 volunteer hour at $24.69.” For 2018, the Knights of Columbus Monsignor James S. Conlan Council #5329 donated collectively among its Brother Knights 1,171 hours of charitable work and we donated $2,500 to charity throughout the year. It should be noted that not included in the donations amount for the year were several non-qualifying Council programs such as Jerry’s Jars and our private donations to widows of deceased members and to help those in need within our community who are going through various situations of hardship. Had those activities and donations been included our Council would have donated over $3,200 for the year to those in need. Thank you to all the Brother Knights in our Council who so generously donate time to all our Council’s charitable initiatives throughout the year.
Annual Council Dinner – Our Council held its Annual Council Dinner on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the Magnanini Winery, Restaurant & Distillery in Wallkill, NY. A great time was had by all and it was a wonderful way to celebrate all we have achieved this past year as a Faith Community and Fraternal Order. Thank you to all who attended for making the event a Blessed one!
