Monsignor James S. Conlan Council #5329 – May 2019 Activities Summary
K of C HV Chapter Honor Flight Wheelchair Fundraiser Donation – Our Council’s Chapter (the Knights of Columbus Hudson Valley Chapter) is sponsoring a fundraiser for Knights Councils within the Chapter to donate money towards wheelchairs to be used by the Hudson Valley Honor Flight to transport disabled and elderly veterans throughout the event. The Honor Flight program allows elderly and disabled veterans to visit the memorials in Washington DC at no charge. The flight features a “mail call” and there are ceremonies held at each flight take off and return. This is an amazing cause and great way to honor those who have sacrificed greatly for our freedoms. Our Council donated $150 this month to purchase one wheelchair to assist the HV Chapter in reaching its commitment to provide the Honor Flight with 60 wheelchairs for veterans this year.
K of C RSVP Program – The Knights of Columbus Supreme sponsors a program called RSVP (Refund Support Vocations Programs). For every $500 a Council or Assembly donates to support a seminarian, Supreme will reimburse that Council or Assembly $100 until you hit the $400 refund max (which means the seminarian received $2,000 in support). This program is one way that the Knights help foster the religious vocation and how we continue to support priest, bishops, and the Church in making sure there are future clergy to serve it and its Catholic faith community. Annually our Council participates in this program by supporting a seminarian. The Dean of Seminarians has assigned us Seminarian Luis Silva as this year’s candidate for the RSVP program. Luis was issued a $500 donation check by our Council earlier this month that he immediately put towards his tuition fees in Seminary for this year. Please keep Luis in your prayers as he continues formation towards the Priesthood.
Private Donations – Our Council made two donations this month that are related to personal matters that we would rather keep private. The total donated was $225.00. We share this amount to let you know transparently how much of the donations you have given us are being used towards good works of mercy and charity. We want you to know that we are good stewards with the money you give us so generously. Our Council wants to thank you for your continued support that enables us to make donations to those in need within our Parish Community possible.
St. Mary’s Outreach Donation – As reported last month our Council helped out at St. Mary’s Outreach (180 South St.; Newburgh, NY) on Good Friday (4/19/19) to distribute food and clothing to needy throughout the morning. You can read more about this volunteer event here. We were so moved by all that we saw that we knew we had to do more. This month we are donating $100 to this program to help them continue to serve the poor and needy throughout Newburgh area, as well as, the surrounding area that includes Pine Bush. This program is a good cause and does much for so many.
2019 Lenten Dinner Fundraiser A Success – We were able to tally up our 2019 Lenten Dinner fundraising totals last month. Thanks to the generous support of the Faith Community at the Church of the Infant Saviour our Council was able to raise $651.49 in fundraising proceeds from the event. This money has been put towards the donations made above ($975 in total donations were made this past month alone). Again we want you to know where your donations go and how that money is helping others out. Thank you to all who purchased meals throughout Lent this year and to Father Rodrigo for allowing us the use of the Parish Hall and kitchen throughout the event.
2019-2020 Hudson Valley Chapter Voting Alternates Appointed – Chris Welch and Mike Grasso were appointed by Grand Knight Charlie Cino as our alternates for Chapter Voting for the 2019-2020 Fraternal Year during this month’s Council meeting (6/13/19). As always, you can find our Council Officers and other appointed position holders listed here. We are always looking for help with our committees and other leadership positions. Monsignor James S. Conlan Council #5329 – Looking Ahead
2019 Annual College Scholarship Essay – Annually our Council offers a $500 scholarship for a graduating senior that lives in the Pine Bush School District and is a practicing Catholic. Essays are submitted on a topic chosen by the Scholarship Committee and then voted upon by that Committee. Essay submissions were due in by June 15, 2019. Our Essay Committee is now reviewing each essay submitted and working towards selecting a winner that will be announced next month (July 2019). More details about the Annual Scholarship can be found here.
New Council Hall – Thanks to the generous donations of many parishioners at the Church of the Infant Saviour, our Church has raised the funds needed to rehabilitate the former preschool building that our Council currently uses as our Council Hall into a rectory for Parish Priests. Father Rodrigo is working with several of our Parishioners and hired professionals to begin the process of receiving approvals needed from the Town of Crawford to begin work. As a result, our Council will be moving our Council Hall in the coming months to the Church Hall. As part of that move, we will be donating time and material to rehabilitate the Church’s kitchen including installing a new commercial grade sink. This is a win-win for all involved: Our Church will get a proper rectory to house our Pastor, associate Pastors and visiting Priests for many years to come. Our Church will also get an updated kitchen for use by Parish community. Our Council will get a new space to hold its monthly meetings at. Stay tuned for an announcement of when we will formally begin meeting in the Council Hall (ETA is around September 2019). For now though, we are continuing to meet in the preschool building until that notice is issued.
