Monsignor James S. Conlan Council #5329 – July 2019 Activities Summary
Youth IS Fundraiser to Help Parish Family A Success – The Church of the Infant Saviour Catholic youth group (Youth IS or Youth Infant Savior) held a fundraiser on July 13, 2017 to raise money for a parish family who lost their home and possessions in a tragic house fire last month. While no one in the family was hurt in the fire the loss is still a huge burden on them. The patriarch of this family is a Brother Knight in our Council. The fundraiser was a success! Youth IS raised $450.00 for the family at the event! Our Council covered the cost of all the food and also donated $125.00 to the fund. With additionally received donations the grand total is $710.00! Youth IS is still accepting donations on the family’s behalf. You can contact Terri Venditti at 845-744-9944 for inquiries. Thank You to all who attended the event and all who have donated money to help the family out. May God bless you for your charity!
St. Mary’s Outreach – St. Mary’s Outreach in Newburgh, NY feeds over 325 people/families each month through their monthly food pantry program. The monthly venue also offers gently used clothing and home goods to those in need. Last month we made a donation of $200.00 to the organization to help support their efforts that feed and clothe the needy throughout the Northern Orange County NY region. This is part of our Council’s ongoing giving initiative to help support those organizations that provide services to those most in need in our regional area including the homeless, elderly, and sick.
The Knights National Convention – Last week in Indianapolis, IN the Knights of Columbus held its Annual National Convention. Supreme Knight Carl Anderson reported during the convention that collectively Brother Knights have made donations of over 76 million hours and $1,800,000.00 in funds during the past year. You can check the K Of C website for the breakdown of the donations here.
Culture of Life Initiative – During the National Convention Supreme Knight Carl Anderson also reported that during the past year Brother Knights had through local Council charitable initiatives put many new ultrasound machines in service as part of our National Culture of Life Initiative. To date Brother Knights have placed over a thousand machines nationally in the last 10 years. You can read more about this here.
Hudson Valley Honor Flight Wheelchair Fundraiser A Success – Last month we spoke about how our Council was donating funds to cover the cost of a wheelchair to support the Hudson Valley Knights of Columbus Chapter’s effort to supply enough wheelchairs for every veteran partaking in the Honor Flight program bi-annually. We are happy to report that the Honor Flight’s need of 80 wheelchairs for veterans partaking in the bi-annual program was completely satisfied by the HV Chapter through donations. 80 wheelchairs have been delivered and will be used during future Honor Flights for disabled and elderly veterans. Our Council is proud to support this patriotic initiative and thank all of you who have supported us throughout the year through fundraising and donations to Council for allowing us to have the funds to support things like this.
Charitable and Benevolent (C&B) Raffle Books – The Hudson Valley Knights of Columbus Chapter annually raises money for the Chapter’s Charitable and Benevolent Program. Councils in the Chapter sell C&B raffle books to donors to support various initiatives throughout the year. Part of the money goes to the local Council selling the book and another portion goes to this Chapter effort. Our Council is currently selling raffle books for this program. Raffle winners will be eligible for cash prizes. This is another way for us to raise funds for our Council’s charity efforts, as well as, support other charitable initiatives throughout our Chapter (plus if you win you get a nice cash prize). If you’re interested in purchasing a book or would like more details you can contact us here for more info.
Monsignor James S. Conlan Council #5329 – Looking Ahead
New Council Hall – Thanks to the generous donations of many parishioners at the Church of the Infant Saviour, our Church has raised the funds needed to rehabilitate the former preschool building that our Council currently uses as our Council Hall into a rectory for Parish Priests. Father Rodrigo is working with several of our Parishioners and hired professionals to begin the process of receiving approvals needed from the Town of Crawford to begin work. As a result, our Council will be moving our Council Hall in the coming months to the Church Hall. As part of that move, we will be donating time and material to rehabilitate the Church’s kitchen including installing a new commercial grade sink. This is a win-win for all involved: Our Church will get a proper rectory to house our Pastor, associate Pastors and visiting Priests for many years to come. Our Church will also get an updated kitchen for use by Parish community. Our Council will get a new space to hold its monthly meetings at. Stay tuned for an announcement of when we will formally begin meeting in the Council Hall (ETA is around September 2019). For now though, we are continuing to meet in the preschool building until that notice is issued.
