Monsignor James S. Conlan Council #5329 – January 2020 Activities Summary

2020 Super Bowl Pool Fundraiser Raffle A Success-  Our Annual 2020 Super Bowl Pool Fundraiser Raffle winners were contacted earlier this month following the Super Bowl score results by their sponsoring Brother Knight in our Council– congratulations to all the winners! Each year our Council sells $50 raffle chances in our Annual Super Bowl Pool raffle fundraiser. This is the primary annual fundraiser for our Council. All proceeds from this fundraiser are used to offset costs incurred by our Annual Christmas Meals for the Needy Program for families in need, as well as, the purchase of winter coats for children in need in our area. You can read more about the fundraiser here. As we have in years past, we quickly sold all the raffle chances for the event and were able to collect all the donations in a timely manner. Thank you to everyone who donated to the fundraiser this year and all the Brother Knights who volunteered their time to sell chances– we appreciate your continued support!

2020 Annual Council Dinner Held – Our Council held its Annual Council Dinner on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at  the Magnanini Winery Carnevale dinner celebration. The Council reserved two large tables that sat the over thirty people attended the event including Brother Knights, their spouses, and our Council’s District Deputy (Paul Plate’). More information about the event can be found here. Thank you to all who attended– it was a great time just like it is every year! Here is to another successful year of helping our Parish and its faith community, as well as, all those in need throughout the Pine Bush area!

Annual Survey of Fraternal Activity – Our Council collectively and conservatively donated 2,346 hours of service to community and Parish this past year in 2019. Our Council also donated $7,217.00 to our Parish, community, and those in need during 2019. This information was filed with Supreme in late January 2020. Each year the Knights of Columbus asks its Councils to account for their volunteer time and monetary donations so the organization can get an idea of how much work we Knights do around the world for our local Parish, our communities, and our Church. This year was a record amount of time and money donated. We appreciate all the hours worked by our Brother Knights, their families, and all who assisted us throughout the year at our various events throughout 2019. A very big thank you to all who donated to our Council in 2019 including all those who attended our events and donated to our Annual Super Bowl Raffle. Your continued support allows us to carry out all the good works, deeds, and faith events we host throughout the year. We are truly appreciative to our community for your support.

Reminder: New Council Tee Shirts Available for Purchase – Last year we refreshed our formal Council polo design to reflect our then newly adopted name as the Knights of Columbus Monsignor James S. Conlan Council #5329. This past month we selected a new design for our Council tee shirts updated with our new Council name as well. The theme of the new tee shirt is “Stand for the flag, kneel for the cross.” Our Knights polo shirts are worn by Brother Knights during more formal events like Chapter Meetings, Degree Ceremonies, and Masses. Our Knights tee shirts are worn by Brother Knights during our charity events and where ever we are performing more manual labor orientated tasks. Both shirts are open for purchase to any Brother Knight in good standing with the Order. If you wish to purchase a polo the cost is $40 per shirt. A long sleeve version of the polo shirt is $45 per shirt. Tee shirts can be purchased for $15 per shirt. Please contact the Council if you wish to order either one and we arrange payment, as well as, pick up once the first order comes in. We will also be selling tee shirts to the general public during our first Lenten Dinner on February 28, 2019. Details for that event are above. All proceeds from shirt sales will be used to fund the various works of charity and faith done throughout the year by our Council.

Monsignor James S. Conlan Council #5329 – Looking Ahead

2019 Coats for Kids Program – In addition to our Christmas meals program this year, we have been approached by our Brother Knights serving the Poughkeepsie, NY area in Dutchess County. They are desperate for children’s winter coat donations for the communities they serve. As such, our Council has ordered coats for these children whose cost was offset by this year’s Super Bowl Pool raffle fundraiser. Our Council utilized the Knights of Columbus’ Coats for Kids program to purchase the coats at cost. We are awaiting the arrival of a case of coats that will keep 12 children in need warm throughout this winter season. This program is also directly offset in cost by our Annual Super Bowl Pool Fundraiser and your support of this event helps us to make programs like this possible. Look for updates in the near future when the coats are delivered to the Poughkeepsie Council Thank you again for generously donating to the raffle so we can make programs like this possible!

Catholic ID Cards – Our Council has been looking into lamented cards identifying you as Catholic and explaining what to do if unable to communicate that you are a Catholic during a medical emergency event such as heart attack or car accident. The cards would be given out to all in Parish interested in them at no charge. Stay tuned for details as we firm up details about the card and when it will be available to the Parish community.

Children’s Bibles and Catechisms – Due to the overwhelming popularity of our Bible and Catechism donation program, our Council will be purchasing more Children’s Bibles and St. Joseph’s Baltimore Catechisms for distribution to the Church of the Infant Saviour Religious Education students in the fifth grade classes. Updates on this initiative will be provided once the bibles and Catechisms are distributed to the children.

2020 Annual College Scholarship Essay Contest – We will once again be giving out a scholarship to one of the Seniors in the Pine Bush School District area this year. More information will be posted in the coming weeks about this annual scholarship program.
