The Knights of Columbus Monsignor James S. Conlan Council #5329’s first 2020 Lenten Dinner was held on Friday; February 28, 2020 and the event was a great success! We had a large amount of take out “to go” orders despite the $5 per serving cost. The community dinner was well attended too. In fact, we had to setup several extra tables and we filled a total of eight large tables and one small one. It was a sell out crowd for the dinner. We easily had the most dinner attendees we have seen in the last four years! All patrons who stayed to dine in at the community dinner paid nothing for their pasta meal. We really appreciate the strong turn out and thank everyone for coming out!
We are grateful to Father Rodrigo for allowing the Knights the use of the Parish Kitchen and Church Hall for the 2020 event series. Thanks to all the Brother Knights whose volunteer work helped make this event a great success and insured that everything ran smoothly. Last, but certainly not least– thank you to all the Parishioners and patrons who purchased meals or stayed for the community dinner. We appreciate your support and thank you for coming out!
Special kudos to our Knight chefs Joe Leclair and Grand Knight Charlie Cino who made the homemade sauces. Also thank you to Knight chef Bernie Henke for getting all the pasta boiled. It was a big team effort with numerous Brother Knights manning the kitchen (Billy Ferrara, Matt Rommel, Nic Grasso, Mike Grasso, Joe Ditizio, Joe LeClair, Dave Vasseur, and… well we lost count… but there were a lot of Brother Knights keeping those orders coming). Meanwhile out front Brother Knights Ray Perry, Mike Finnegan, Bob Yackel, John Lenihan, and Ken Finnegan (there were more… again… we just lost count we had some many volunteers… amazing!) kept the orders coming to waiting patrons. Everyone enjoyed a heaping portion of either linguine with clams or linguine marinara thanks to all of the Knights who worked the kitchen and the front service station. We also served Italian bread and it was absolutely delicious with the sauce. Refreshments were also served for those who stayed for the community dinner and some opted to bring their own drinks as well. The feedback from all who attended the community dinner was very positive and it was a joy for our Council to see so many from our Parish community spending time together.
Next week we will host our second 2020 Lenten Dinner on Friday, March 6, 2020. The menu is homemade Pasta Fagioli (pronounced “fah-zool”) soup. The soup comes in a 16 ounce travel cup. The cost is $5 per serving and the dinner is take out only. You can send in your orders via email and all orders must be in by Thursday; March 5, 2020 at 5 pm. There will also be an order list in the Church Atrium after each Mass this weekend (2/29/20 and 3/1/20) for you to place orders for the event.
Next weeks meal will start being served after the 6:30 pm Stations of the Cross concludes in the main Church (around 6:50 pm). All meals can be picked up in the Church of the Infant Saviour Church Hall starting at that time. Please be aware that doors will close at 7:30 pm. If you need to arrange a later pickup please let us know ahead of time.
As always we need volunteers so any Brother Knight who would like to help is welcome to do so. As those who have volunteered in the past will tell you, those Knights who do volunteer for the event always get more out of it than they give! Please be at the Church Hall by 6 pm if you wish to help out.
All proceeds from each of our Lenten Dinners will go to the various works of charity and faith our Council performs throughout the year. Thank you in advance for your support of this event and we hope to see you there!
Buon Appetit.
