Monsignor James S. Conlan Council #5329 – September 2020 Activities Summary

New Council Hall –  Our Council will be using the Catholic War Veterans’ Post 1937 Hall as our Knights Council Hall going forward. This venue allows our Council to meet safely with all recommended in person precautions and will make sure that we do not put any undo duress on Infant Saviour Church as our Parish continues to navigate conducting services and other events at the Parish during the pandemic safely. By moving our meeting elsewhere this frees up space and resources for the Parish to focus on its masses, ministries, religious services, evangelization/religious education programs, and other important pastoral services that need to be conducted at the Church or Church Hall. We would like to thank our brothers in the Catholic War Veterans Post 1937 for their hospitality and assistance in making this venue change happen. Many members of this Post are also Brother Knights in our Council and many others are fellow parishioners at Infant Saviour Church in Pine Bush. We share a special bond in this way and it is good way to foster further fraternity between our groups. We are grateful for all the Catholic War Vets do for our faith community and again cannot express in full our gratitude for their willingness to let us meet at the building going forward. You can find out more about the venue including direction by visiting our Meeting page. Please note this will allow us to resume monthly meetings every second Thursday at the new start time of 7pm.

Council T-Shirts – If you are interested in a Council branded tee-shirt please contact us. Shirts are $15 per shirt. Proceeds are donated to the Council for use in our various charitable causes throughout the year.

Charitable & Benevolent Raffle Books Fundraiser – C&B Books Raffle fundraising has begun for this year. Each raffle donation supports Catholic schools and vocations donations throughout New York State. This raffle is held through the New York State Knights of Columbus. Books are $10 and contain six chances per book. The more you buy, the better your odds of winning! Proceeds will be used by our Council towards our various charitable works throughout the year. Drawing of winners will be held on 12/5/20 so if you are interested please contact us to purchase your raffle chances and learn more about the cash prizes.

Monsignor James S. Conlan Council #5329 – Looking Ahead

Christmas Meals For Needy Families – Each year our Council buys everything needed for a complete Christmas dinner and gives those dinners to families in need within our Parish area. Last year we fed over 30 families and we are planning on doing so again this year. This meal donation program is part of our Annual Charitable Giving plan and is yet another way our Council helps the local Catholic community through charitable giving, as well as, volunteer work. If you know a family or individual in need of food for Christmas please contact us.

Jerry’s Jars – Each year our Council collects spare change throughout the year and in December collects it into a single jar. “Jerry’s Jars” is named after our past Financial Secretary Jerry Wieczorek who instituted the practice of our members saving change all year to add together at Christmas time so we can give it to a family in need. It is in the spirit of the best selling book, “Christmas Jars” by Jason Wright. Sadly, Jerry passed away only a couple of years after this was started and it is great that we can keep his ministry alive. Once again this year our Council will donate the money to a person or family in need within our Parish area. Nominations come from many different resources and are done so anonymously. Only a few Brother Knights that are vowed to secrecy know who we donate the money to and we never actually talk with the person who gets the donation so they do not even know where the money came from. It just appears on their doorstep on a randomly decided morning. This donation is part of our Annual Charitable Giving plan and is yet another way our Council helps the local Catholic community through charitable giving, as well as, volunteer work. Over the years we have given away hundreds of dollars (and really probably over a thousand dollars– we don’t really keep count) to people in need through this program.

Coats for Kids Program – Our Council will be utilizing the Knights of Columbus’ Coats for Kids program this year to give coats to children in need throughout Orange County. We will be able to provide a case of coats that will keep 12 children in need warmth throughout this winter season. More info will be given as planning continues including how these coats will be distributed.
