Catholic War Vets Wartime Prayer Book Donation – The Catholic War Vets Post 1937 in Pine Bush NY sends out prayer books each year to US military troops stationed domestic or abroad through a program they are part of in the larger Catholic War Vets organization. Soldiers are nominated by local community members to receive the book at no cost and through the program additional soldiers are selected to be supported by the Post. This ensures that Catholic American soldiers throughout the world get access to the prayer book at no cost to them. It’s a wonderful way to show support for our troops and let them know we are thinking, as well as, praying for them. This prayer book is called the “Wartime Prayer Book” and was written by the Most Reverend Venerable Fulton J. Sheen. It is considered a classic work of his and has been used by Catholic soldiers for decades as a source of solace and strength during times of duress whether during peace or wartime service. You can purchase a copy of the book here from Catholic.com. Last Council meeting (10/15/20) we voted to support this program with a donation. We donated the money that same night. Last night during our most recent Council meeting (11/12/20) a member of the Catholic Wars Vets let our Council know during the meeting that they had been able to purchase 200 prayer books for the troops in the program this year. The plan is to deliver them in the next two months to the those troops once the order comes into the Post. This means 200 more soldiers this Christmas season will have the “Wartime Prayer Book” in their hands as a source of spiritual encouragement. A truly beautiful Christmas gift that we are proud to have helped to make possible. Please keep all our American soldiers and their families in your daily prayers, as well as, pray for the souls of those deceased soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to country.

Carl Raymond Williams, Sr. 4th Degree Assembly #762 in Middletown, NY (who our Fourth Degree Brother Knights are part of) are raffling off chances for “Baskets of Cheer”. This annual Christmas fundraiser is a great way to support the Assembly’s charitable works that take place throughout the Orange and Sullivan County area. Monsignor James S. Conlan Council #5329 – Looking Ahead

Christmas Meals For Needy Families – Each year our Council buys everything needed for a complete Christmas dinner and gives those dinners to families in need within our Parish area. Last year we fed over 30 families and we are planning on doing so again this year. This meal donation program is part of our Annual Charitable Giving plan and is yet another way our Council helps the local Catholic community through charitable giving, as well as, volunteer work. If you know a family or individual in need of food for Christmas please contact us.

Jerry’s Jars – Each year our Council collects spare change throughout the year and in December collects it into a single jar. “Jerry’s Jars” is named after our past Financial Secretary Jerry Wieczorek who instituted the practice of our members saving change all year to add together at Christmas time so we can give it to a family in need. It is in the spirit of the best selling book, “Christmas Jars” by Jason Wright. Sadly, Jerry passed away only a couple of years after this was started and it is great that we can keep his ministry alive. Once again this year our Council will donate the money to a person or family in need within our Parish area. Nominations come from many different resources and are done so anonymously. Only a few Brother Knights that are vowed to secrecy know who we donate the money to and we never actually talk with the person who gets the donation so they do not even know where the money came from. It just appears on their doorstep on a randomly decided morning. This donation is part of our Annual Charitable Giving plan and is yet another way our Council helps the local Catholic community through charitable giving, as well as, volunteer work. Over the years we have given away hundreds of dollars (and really probably over a thousand dollars– we don’t really keep count) to people in need through this program.

Coats for Kids Program – Our Council will be utilizing the Knights of Columbus’ Coats for Kids program this year to give coats to children in need throughout Orange County. We will be able to provide a case of coats that will keep 12 children in need warmth throughout this winter season. More info will be given as planning continues including how these coats will be distributed.
