Knights Make Coats Donation to Catholic Charities

On Tuesday, December 15, 2020 the Knights of Columbus Monsignor James S. Conlan Council #5329 made a donation of twelve brand new extreme cold winter youth coats to the Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan, & Ulster Counties located in Goshen, New York. Resource Exchange Coordinator Mike Peters accepted the donation delivery from Financial Secretary Chris Welch (pictured above) and just minutes later they were packed to head out to families in need throughout the Tri-County Area.

When FS Welch followed up with Kristin Jensen, who is Catholic Charities Chief Advancement Officer, to see how the donation worked out; she expressed her gratitude to our Council as she noted it not often their organization gets donations of new clothing and jackets. As such, all twelve coats were given to children in need that day. If you know someone in need of assistance, reach out to their regional helpline at ccosuhelpline@cccsos.org. If you would like to make a donation to Catholic Charites of Orange, Sullivan, & Ulster Counties you can do so here.

Our Council utilized the Knights of Columbus’ Coats for Kids program to source the donation at cost through the Knights Supreme Council’s bulk purchasing system. This lowers the cost per coat by purchasing them at near cost from manufactures that provide them in bulk to Supreme who in turn then is able to distribute them at that same cost to each local Council who then reimburses Supreme that amount from their local charity raising funds. This allowed us to get twelve coats at a price that would normally, in retail stores, only purchase two equivalent coats. The program is another great way the Knights of Columbus use their membership numbers to serve those in need throughout all the communities our Councils serve. Since its inception in 2009, the Knights have provided over 500,000 children’s coats to those in need throughout the world. We are humbled and grateful to be able to continue to advance this mission of charity and mercy towards those in need within the communities served by our Council, as well as, make sure twelve more children will not go without a good coat this winter to keep them warm.

Programs like these are made possible through your support of our charity events. This year we will be hosting a 50/50 Raffle to support these initiatives. You can find out more about that fundraiser here.
