Monsignor James S. Conlan Council #5329 – May 2021 Activities Summary
2020 Annual Knights College Scholarship Essay Contest – Once again this year our Council held our annual essay scholarship contest open to all High School Seniors within the Pine Bush Central School District that are active in the Catholic Church. As previously announced on this website, the winner this year was Matthew Martinelli. Matthew is graduating from John S. Burke Catholic High School in Goshen, NY and will be attending SUNY Maritime in the Fall 2021 Semester. You can read more about the scholarship winner announcement here. Congratulations to Matthew! Please keep Matthew and all the 2021 graduates in your prayers.
Knights Religious Vocations Formation Support Program – The Knights of Columbus Supreme sponsors a program called RSVP (Refund Support Vocations Programs). For every $500 a Council or Assembly donates to support a seminarian, Supreme will reimburse that Council or Assembly $100 until you hit the $400 refund max (which means the seminarian received $2,000 in support). This program is one way that the Knights help foster the religious vocation and how we continue to support priest, bishops, and the Church in making sure there are future clergy to serve it and its Catholic faith community. Annually our Council participates in this program by supporting a seminarian. The Dean of Seminarians assigned us Seminarian Wesbee Victor for this year as our candidate for the RSVP program. Our Council, again this year, made a $500 donation to Wesbee in April 2021 that he was be able to put towards his tuition fees in Seminary for this year. On May 29, 2021 Timothy Cardinal Dolan celebrated a mass of Holy Orders ordination at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City for ten new Catholic Priests and we are happy to announce one of the Priest ordained that day was Father Wesbee Victor! You can read more about the ordination mass here on the Catholic NY website. You can also read more about Father Wesbee Victor on the Catholic NY website here including an depth profile of him and the other ten new Priests. This is an exciting time for the Archdiocese of New York to have such a big class of newly ordained Priests! Please keep Father Wesbee and all the newly ordained Priests throughout the world in your prayers as they begin their ministry in our Church.
New Council Officers Elected For 2021-2022 – Each year all Councils throughout the world hold their annual election for new officers in May in preparation for the new Council year that runs from July through June. During our May 2021 meeting (May 20, 2021) nominations were made for the coming year 2021-2022 Council year. Our Council is happy to announce that Deputy Grand Knight Joe Ditizio has been elected as Grand Knight for the 2021-2022 Council year. DGK Ditizio has been our Deputy Grand Knight for many years and also has served as our Retention Chairman and our HV Chapter Representative among other positions in the past. Also elected to fill the Deputy Grand Knight position was Matt Rommel who has served the past two Council years as Inside Guard, as well as, our Program Director and Family Director.
With the new year and new officers this means Grand Knight Charlie Cino will finally be able to get a little downtime after over ten years of service as our Grand Knight. Our Council would like to thank GK Cino for all his hard work leading our Council this past decade. We really appreciate his leadership that has been key to keeping our Council active and we know soon to be Past Grand Knight Cino will enjoy being able to take some time off after so many years of leadership. PGKs are still very active in their Councils and are actually considered a formal Officer position albeit one that requires less active leadership. We know this role will work well for PGK Cino and be one that he can continue to contribute to our Council and its continued good works.
Please keep all our newly elected Officers, current Officers, and our past Officers in your prayers as they continue their work in Council for our Parish, our community and our Church.
