Knights Sponsor May Flowers for the Blessed Mother Veneration Devotional

The Blessed Mother Mary Surrounded by Flowers in a Garden

In May we celebrate mothers with Mother’s Day. In the Catholic Church, May is traditionally dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary and May is known in the Liturgical calendar as the “Month of Mary”. It is a time for special devotions and honoring the Virgin Mary as the Mother of God and Mother of the Church. What better way to honor and give thanks for Our Blessed Mother Mary than to bring her flowers. This is another traditional veneration devotional of the Catholic faith– the offering of flowers to the Blessed Mother as a sign of our affection just as we do with our own mother on Mother’s Day.

The Knights of Columbus Monsignor James S. Conlan Council #5329 will be sponsoring a May devotional for the Blessed Mother at the Church of the Infant Saviour in Pine Bush NY. The Knights will have available in the church’s main entrance narthex (the front entrance area of the church) at each weekend mass carnations that can be purchased and left with the Blessed Mother statue located on the main church’s front sanctuary area in vases that will be placed at the Blessed Mother’s feet for this purpose. Starting on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at the 5pm Mass these carnations will be sold for $3.00 each by the Knights of Columbus for you to place in the vases near our Mother Mary. She will be showered by your tokens of love by doing so.

There will also be small paper strips and pencils to write your petitions on to ask for prayer intentions from our Lord and intervention in these prayer petitions from His Blessed Mother. You can place those prayer intentions in the basket that will also be found at  the feet of the Blessed Mother near to where the carnations vases will be. Mary in turn, will take them into her Immaculate Heart and bring them to her son Jesus Christ.

Since this will take place the entire month of May, please feel free to shower Mother Mary with flowers as often as you like. There will be fresh flowers every weekend, and there is no limit as to the quantity of carnations or the amount of times that you may present flowers to her as your token of love.

In honoring your Blessed Heavenly Mother this May you will also help our Knights of Columbus here at Infant Saviour spread Mary’s love, and her love of her son Jesus Christ, by this work of charity. Again this is a longtime Catholic devotion and our Council is proud to bring it here to Infant Saviour with the hope of making it an annual event. All money donated for the flowers to our Council will be used for various works of charity we do in the parish, Church, and community. Just recently we purchased sacramentals as gift to both our second grade students receiving their First Holy Communion in the upcoming weeks as well as our eight grade students who made their Confirmation a few weeks back. We do this each year for our church’s Religious Education Program and know these gifts to the children foster their faith at a critical time in their childhood that will help to support that faith as they continue to mature and become adults.

This is just one of the most recent activities our Council undertook along with our recently announced Cor Catholic Men’s Prayer Group program that will continue to meet monthly at the church. The first meeting was well attended and we are thankful for all our Catholic brothers who were able to attend. We hope to see even more of our Catholic brothers in our parish attend the next meeting that will be announced in the upcoming weeks in the church bulletin.

In the meantime we hope you will purchase a carnation and make a prayer intention to the Blessed Mother this May so we can shower Mary with flowers as well as seek her intervention for our spiritual, physical, and mental needs we present to her asking for her intervention with her Son Jesus in our prayers. Mary Queen of Heaven, Mother of God and Mother of our Church– pray for us!
