Knights Make Coats Donation to PBCSD

On Tuesday December 7, 2021 the Knights of Columbus Monsignor James S. Conlan Council #5329 donated twenty four extreme cold weather winter children’s coats to the Pine Bush Central School District for distribution by the elementary school nurses. The brand new coats were purchased through the Knights of Columbus’ Coats for Kids Program. We bought twelve girls coats and twelve boys coats. The coats are sized between 6-10 years old.

Using the Coats for Kids Program through the Supreme Council allows us to source the coats at cost through the Knights Supreme Council’s bulk purchasing system. This lowers the cost per coat by purchasing them at near cost from manufactures that provide them in bulk to Supreme who in turn then is able to distribute them at that same cost to each local Council who then reimburses Supreme that amount from their local charity raising funds. This allowed us to get twenty four coats at a price that would normally, in retail stores, only purchase four equivalent coats. The program is another great way the Knights of Columbus use their membership numbers to serve those in need throughout all the communities our Councils serve.

Since its inception in 2009, the Knights of Columbus have provided over 500,000 children’s coats to those in need throughout the world. We are humbled and grateful to be able to continue to advance this mission of charity and mercy towards those in need within the communities served by our Council, as well as, make sure twenty four more children this year will not go without a good coat this winter to keep them warm. This past year alone Knights Supreme also ran a fundraiser where it made a matching gift of $250,000 and was able to raise a total of $593,291. These donations will allow Knights Supreme to distribute more than 30,000 coats this winter to children throughout North America. This is in addition to the coats being distributed by local Councils throughout North America like ours. Literally thousands of kids this winter will have new coats to keep them warm because of all this work. None of that work would be possible without donations though from our community in Pine Bush and our parish members at the Church of the Infant Saviour. Our recent Coin Drop Fundraiser enabled us to make this coat purchase so we could in turn take your donations and put them towards worthy causes like this. We thank you for entrusting us with your donation and supporting this program. We are truly grateful for your support and humbled by your trust of our stewardship of your donation.

We would like to thank PBSCD Social Worker Katie Carson-Decker for facilitating our coats donation to the District and for overseeing the delivery of the coats to the school nurses in the District who will be able to get these coats to the kids who need them within our community the most. We appreciate all the work that both the District nurses and social workers are doing for the children in the schools.  We hope this helps make winter a bit easier for at least a few children in need within the District.

Programs like these are made possible through your support of our charity events. This program spent just under $500 so we are already half way through the funds we raised this fall. We still two more programs this month alone we plan on using the remaining $500 towards raised through the Coin Drop (Jerry’s Jars and our annual Christmas Dinners Program). Next year in February we will be hosting a 50/50 Raffle to support other initiatives like these as we begin looking towards our spring and summer charity programs. Please check back in the coming months for more information about how you can purchase tickets, as well as, other details.
